It is not surprising that a dog can sense their owner’s or trainer’s mood because these creatures are extremely keen and intuitive of their owner’s mood. A good reason why people should get a dog is they know when their owner is sad, so they are clingy and willing to do anything to make their owners happy.
In terms of the training method of the dog, many trainers noticed that their mood during the training period affects the performance of the dog. In general, if the trainer wants the dog to perform better during training, the trainer should be in a good mood and enthusiastic. A dog would perform and listen better to a trainer that is enthusiastic because dogs like to please their owners.
2. When you are not paying attention
Dogs are intelligent creatures that are capable of observing their surroundings and due to their heightened senses, they can feel the emotions and attention of their owners. You can observe your dog and you would notice that they can predict or sense if your attention is not directed to them.
The best example where a dog uses this heightened sense to their advantage is when they want something from their owner, and they would wait a few moments until their owner is no longer paying attention. Based on the study of dogs published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, they observed two dogs and it proved that dogs could sense inequality.
The study was conducted by giving both dogs the same obedience command but when both dogs managed to accomplish the task, only one dog gets to have a treat. The other dog would get nothing even if they did manage to follow the command given to them by the trainer.
The result of study shown that the dogs can sense inequality and they know how to react to it because the dog stopped paying attention to the trainers after noticing the unequal treatment. The dogs stopped listening to the command of the trainers because they do not get the same level of reward and attention as the other dog.
In general, if you have many dogs, make sure that you give both dogs the same level of love and affection to prevent neglect and jealousy among them.
4. When you are sick
Since dogs prioritize the happiness of their owners, their heightened senses are not limited to the mood and emotions because studies have shown that they can sense sickness as well. There are many dogs that are trained to be service dogs because they are capable of providing the needs of their owners and they offer comfort.
However, based on the recent studies, the experiment has shown that aside from providing the needs and comfort to handicaps, dogs have the ability to sense sickness such as cancer.
The experiment was conducted by testing the sense of smell of the dogs if their heightened sense of smell can identify a blood sample that has cancer cells. Researchers of the experiment observed the dog by allowing them to smell different blood samples and pick the one that contains cancer.
Through these research, medical practitioners are hoping that they can utilize the heightened sense of smell of dogs to better test and recognize cancer in man.
5. If you are an untrustworthy person
In relation to the intelligence and empathic characteristics of dogs, they also have the ability to filter out untrustworthy people based on the research conducted in Kyoto University of Japan. The Japanese researchers tried to study 34 dogs and how these dogs would react to tricks and untrustworthy individuals. The study tried to calculate and find out how long does a dog would notice that their trainer is misleading them.
As the Japanese researchers conducted the study, they started the experiment by putting food in the first container and removing food from the second one. Since the dogs were continuously mislead by the initial trainer, they stopped following the trainer because they no longer trust him.
However, when a new trainer entered the room and tried doing the same thing as the old trainer, the dogs still followed him. The reason why the dogs was still following the new trainer is because the new trainer has not misled them unlike the first one. The entire study proved that a dog could notice misleading acts of other people.
