Dogs get hyper a lot. This is especially so when they go out in public. They like to explore new places and their excitement translates into being very happy and running around all over. They will tug on the leash and when they break free they can crawl into some pretty awkward places.
This is a very common problem so you will need to start training your dog for it. The key to this is to have your pet go through a lot of exercise and to get them used to the new to ensure that they don’t just go wild in public. However, this can take some time and some dogs are a lot more hyper than other choices.
Here are some tips to remember to ensure that your dogs don’t go wild in public and in new places.
1. A Ton Of Exercise
Exercise is one of the key answers to ensuring that your dog behaves. The main reason that a lot of dogs misbehave in public is that they are so full of energy. Doggy metabolism allows them to store a lot of energy that can just explode when the time is right. This is where all that energy their public outbursts come from.
Regular exercise should help in tiring them out. If they are constantly energetic when going outside, then try to double their walking time.
For example, if they currently walk for 30 minutes, then an hour should be enough. This is not just for a single day but for multiple days. Keep exercising them so that they won’t have the energy for extra running around.
The constant exercise is because a lot of dogs have a lot of pent-up energy. This comes from the lack of exercise so you will need to catch up. With the increased exercise, they will be a lot calmer.

2. Get a Proper Collar
One of the most essential pieces of equipment when you’re walking your dog is a good collar. There are a lot of collars in the market right now so you have a wide variety of choices. When you’re thinking of getting a collar for a dog you need to choose a collar that will handle all of the pulling your dog will do.
A collar that is comfortable and controls your dog is essential. Just pick one that is short and doesn’t chafe so much. That way your dog will stay near you as you walk around.
Most importantly, don’t pick a collar that is long because that gives them too much freedom.
3. Carry Their Favorite Treats
Calming down a pet is not just about lowering their energy levels. Being calm is also a state of mind. To contribute to that, you need to get them relaxed. One of the best ways to do that is to give them some really great treats.
Dog biscuits are a big favorite, however, you may want to extend beyond that. Go for some expensive treats so that your dog will start chewing them up. It all depends on what they want. You are also going to have to choose what your dog would like. Experiment and see what works and what your dog likes.
4. Keep On Practicing
Practice makes perfect. This is why it is important for you not to throw them into the deep end of the pool. Do not bring your dog to a crowded and busy place immediately. It is best to start them off somewhere they can practice and get used to the outdoors. This means large quite places.
An excellent spot would be a park with some large tables. Just go to one and hang around. Maybe you can sit down and order your dog to stay to see if they can resist just running off.

The next step is to increase the amount of noise and people in the formula. This can be a small coffee shop with outdoor seating. When you go to such a place, pick a spot away from the crowd and be always mindful of your dog. Try to shield them from distractions and ensure that you have their attention.
You can also keep on giving them treats and rewards so as to encourage good behavior. If they are having a hard time behaving, then you should go back to the park and try again next time.
Try to do this regularly on a weekly basis. Slowly, habits will be ingrained into your dog so that they would focus on you when it is time to go out.
5. Focus On Basic Obedience
It is not just about exposure practice. You will also need to teach your dogs to obey your commands. Dogs will sniff and bark at other dogs. You need to be able to keep in control of them. This is where your focusing on teaching them to be obedient to you comes in.
Most of the time, you will need to teach your dog some simple commands. The important thing to keep them calm and not running off is to teach them to stay on command. Another useful command is to ask them to watch you. These two commands will be useful to keep your dog calmed down and not running around everywhere.
The goal is to ensure that these commands are recognized and that you treat them well for following your orders. If they can do this, they should be a big help to keep the dogs calms when they are in more challenging environments.

Stop Being Worried About Your Dog in Public
With these tips and a lot of effort, you should be able to get your dog properly trained for going in public without being a nuisance. No more worries when you go to a new place or when you’re out walking them. This is a good thing especially if you want to take them along with you when you are traveling.
